1/22/2024 0 Comments Anti mog ms![]() However, not all individuals will recover fully. ![]() In patients with TM, the presence of MOG-Ab has also been associated with a better recovery from acute attacks, and really similar frequency of severe attacks at the onset to AQP4-Ab-associated disorders. Although, MOG-Ab-associated ON is usually a recurrent disease, visual recovery was good the outcome was better in MOG-than in AQP4-Ab-positive patients correlating with a better preserved retinal fiber layer thickness. MOG-Ab-positive patients less frequently suffer motor disability and have a better extended disability status scale (EDSS) score, compared to AQP4-Ab-positive patients. In several studies, MOG-Ab was associated with a favorable outcome. Cortical encephalitis was recently described in MOG-Ab-positive patients but not in AQP4-Ab NMOSD. In a large cohort of MOG-Ab–positive patients, ADEM (or an ADEM-like episode) was reported as the initial feature in 18%, primarily affecting children. Brainstem involvement and postrema area syndrome (persistent nausea, vomiting, or hiccups), which usually present in NMOSD (around 40%), has been reported in 6%–15% of MOG-Ab–positive patients as well. Among patients with TM, motor symptoms were frequent and included tetraparesis in 28%, paraparesis in 48%, and severe weakness in 21%. In the largest series, visual acuity was described to be <0.1 at least once in 69% of patients with ON. The first attack of TM or ON can be severe. Two independent groups have evaluated the categories of clinical phenotypes for MOGAD: ON was the major phenotype (41%–63%), followed by LETM (29%–31%), NMO (6%–24%), and encephalomyelitis (2%–6%), while in AQP4-Ab-positive patients, the reported phenotypes were NMO in approximately 60%, followed by LETM (in about 30%), and ON (in about 10%). Significantly, MOG-Ab alone did not induce inflammation or tissue destruction rather, their interdependence with T cells was required to develop their pathogenic potential. The ac cumulation of MOG-Ab has been described in CNS antigen-presenting cells with subsequent activation of autoreactive T cells, followed by the induction of peripheral autoreactive T cells. In addition, MOG-Ab belongs to the complement binding IgG1 subtype and has been found to activate the complement cascade, leading to complement-dependent destruction of MOG-expressing cells. Initial studies revealed a pathogenic effect of the humoral immune response against MOG (human MOG-Ab) these antibodies were able to induce the death of MOG-expressing cells as well as natural killer cell-mediated cell death, with the extent of cell damage dependent on antibody levels. Furthermore, purified IgG from MOG-IgG–positive patients, when incubated with oligodendrocytes in vitro, led to obvious cytoskeletal disorganization, further suggesting functional pathogenicity. In humans, high-titer MOG-immunoglobulin G (MOG-IgG) levels in serum samples seem to efficiently activate the complement cascade in vitro. Key words: Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein, Demyelinating diseases, Neuromyelitis optica, Optic neuritis, Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis This review summarizes the data regarding MOG-Ab as an impending biological marker for discriminating between these diverse demyelinating CNS diseases and discusses recent developments, clinical applications, and findings regarding the immunopathogenesis of MOG-Ab-associated disorders. A humoral immune reaction against MOG was recently found in monophasic diseases and recurrent/multiphasic clinical progression, particularly in pediatric patients. Using specific cell-based assays, MOG-Ab is becoming a potential biomarker of inflammatory demyelinating disorders of the CNS. MOG-Ab is associated with a wider clinical phenotype not limited to neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder, with most patients presenting with optic neuritis, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) or ADEM-like encephalitis with brain demyelinating lesions, and/or myelitis. Antibodies against myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG-Ab) have been found in some cases of these demyelinating diseases, particularly in children. Inflammatory or immune-mediated demyelinating central nervous system (CNS) syndromes include a broad spectrum of clinical phenotype and different overlapping diseases. 1/22/2024 0 Comments Lanscan windows 10![]() ![]() More than 100 million people use GitHub to discover, fork, and contribute to over 420 million projects. Great Wolf Lodge Ultimate What to Pack List Tips 1/22/2024 0 Comments Comics falcon captain americaOn the creative front, after seven years of writing Cap (first in Tales of Suspense and then in his solo title), Stan Lee had given up that role. ![]() Quite a lot had happened in the two years I’d been gone, obviously. I liked those comics, and I liked the Falcon but perhaps my general dissatisfaction with the title’s direction made it easier for me to abandon the book when Marvel instituted a new line-wide “no continued stories” policy at around that same time - a policy whose period of implementation would, not so coincidentally, closely correspond to a run of months from late 1969 through early 1970 when I bought hardly any new comic books at all - and maybe my residual dissatisfaction also made it easier for me to ignore the series when I returned to buying comics in force in mid-1970, even as I began to routinely pick up Marvels that I’d paid relatively little attention to prior to taking my hiatus, such as Iron Man and Sub-Mariner. Those included Captain America #118, featuring the first foray into superheroic action of one Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon (who’d technically debuted in the previous issue, #117). I did - at least, I enjoyed those installments I was able to find and buy (somehow, I missed three out of the saga’s five chapters, including the conclusion). That shouldn’t be taken as meaning that I didn’t enjoy the Red Skull-Cosmic Cube storyline that wrote Rick out of Cap’s book on its own merits. I liked the Captain America-Rick Jones combo, and I was irked that it ended the way it did. Nor was I mollified by Rick’s subsequently landing on his feet as the new partner (so to speak) of Captain Marvel, courtesy of Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, in issue #17 of the latter stalwart’s title. And thus I was displeased when, within just a few issues of Steranko’s departure, scripter Stan Lee (in collaboration with artists/co-plotters John Romita, John Buscema, and Gene Colan) contrived matters so that Rick was summarily rejected as partner by “Cap” - who was actually a body-swapped Red Skull. As I’ve written about in earlier posts, back in 1968-69 I was fully invested in the plotline developed by Jim Steranko (beginning with the artist/co-plotter’s first issue, Captain America #110) in which Rick, a longtime supporting character in both Hulk and Avengers, had, after years of hints and teases on Marvel’s part, finally suited up in Bucky Barnes’ old gear to become Cap’s new partner. ![]() Hulk remained a tough sell for your humble blogger, except for those occasions when his series crossed over with other books I followed, like Avengers.) ![]() In September, 1971, I bought my first issue of Captain America in almost two years today, fifty years later, I’m not sure how to account for my long abstinence from the adventures of the Star-Spangled Avenger, especially considering that I was buying every other superhero title Marvel Comics was putting out at that time. 1/22/2024 0 Comments Large concrete tiles indoorYou need to “uncouple” the tile from the concrete. Thankfully, there is a solution to this problem. The shifting that produces the cracks in the concrete slab will also produce cracks in the tile and/or grout. To make matters worse, the grout that is used to fill the seams also has no flexibility and will crack as well. As the concrete shifts, the tile will shift with it. Porcelain floor tile cannot compensate for these shifts. When the foundation of the home shifts, and most do have minor shifts over time, the concrete slab can develop hairline cracks that can grow larger over time. Although your floor may look relatively good now, the condition can change over time. Very small cracks of 1/8 th of an inch may be filled using a high-quality modified thin-set mortar. Installing tile directly on a slab that has even minor cracks can be an issue. Foundation shifts can adversely affect your concrete slab. If you do not find moisture, the second issue you need to address is cracks in the slab. You should seek the help of a professional to seal the slab before moving forward. ![]() If you do find moisture, you should not apply the tile directly to the concrete since the moisture can damage the mortar which will loosen the tiles. After three or four days, check to see if there is any moisture on the underside of the plastic. Be sure you keep your thermostat at a constant temperature during this test. Tape it securely to the concrete slab so no air can get in. Lay it on the slab in an area that is not affected by sunlight. There is a simple way to test for moisture. Moisture can come up from the concrete slab and affect the underside of your tile as well as the adhesive you are using. Let’s look at Moisture and Foundation Shifts in greater detail. Generating a flat, dramatic tile floor doesn’t have to be hard if you plan ahead and take the necessary steps. The two most important factors are Moisture and Foundation Shifts. ![]() What You Need to Know Before Laying Tile on ConcreteĪlthough putting tile directly over concrete is a common practice, there are a couple issues that need to be addressed to be sure your project stands the test of time, and won't cause issues down the road that could have been easily addressed up-front.

You could get it as off cuts from your local butcher or if you can't face handling the real stuff (and in the UK) you can get lard (reduced, pure suet) in block form from your local supermarket - peeps traditionally use it as shortening for pie crusts. I'm with leebryuk, suet is the hard white fat found around kidneys and loin cuts of meat. Win/Win! I hope you've enjoyed this project as much as I have. I used peanut suet to attract the woodpeckers and have found that the hot pepper delight is great for birds and squirrels hate it. If you're more Easterly than Southern Indiana chances are you could attract orioles by filling this with apple suet or even just cramming some fresh fruit into the holes. Currently in my backyard there are two tray feeders, two of these timber feeders, two of the extra large sized suet cages (for cardinals, blue jays, etc.), a thistle tube and a thistle sock, and a couple of the regular, store bought suet cages. If you're in an area where you think you'll be getting mostly songbirds, or just want the wrens and finches to have easier access then this would be a good idea. ![]() I didn't include this because the first one I made was a big hit with woodpeckers and they had no trouble just latching themselves onto the timber. One additional thing you can add to this project is a collection of little dowel rod perches for the birds to sit on while the chow down. |
